East Algarve / Tavira
Tavira is a charming town with some lovely, quite grand, buildings reflecting it's wealthy past. It is arguably the Algarve’s most picturesque town and exudes an authentic Portuguese charm. Today it has still managed to stave off the influence of tourism and hold on to its unique charm and traditional ways.
It is a picturesque, relaxed, peaceful town with everything to hand and is a perfect holiday spot for couples and families and there are also many great places to visit if you want to venture a little further afield. It makes it an excellent base for exploring the Algarve’s eastern section.
Set on either side of the meandering Rio Gilão, Tavira is a charming town. The ruins of a hilltop castle, an old Roman bridge and a smattering of Gothic and Renaissance churches are among Tavira’s historic attractions.
Tavira is ideal for wandering; the warren of cobblestone streets hides pretty, historic gardens and shady plazas. There’s a small, active fishing port and a modern market.
The tour pays a visit to the mountains above Tavira, with the walks offering stunning views, to São Brás with its charming old town, fascinating folk & cork museum giving an insight into the history of the cork trade.
