Porto - City & Nature
Porto is exceptional in more ways than one. Elected Best European Destination 2017, the called “unvanquished city” (after its resistance to the Napoleonic Imperial army) is full of history, architecture, culture, gastronomy, and of course, is a Mecca for wine lovers.
Porto is one of the oldest cities of Portugal, and, as such, there are thousand charms and corners that are worth discovering in the capital of the North.
From the river Douro to the excellent beaches, the churches and monuments and the non-conformist modernism of the new contemporary buildings of architects like Siza Vieira, or Rem Koolhaas, this is a city to remember.

The ancient Port, steeped in history, and the UNESCO world heritage listed riverfront, scattered with colourful houses and traditional sailing boats are stunning, and the city is well known for its monuments.
We have included a tour and tasting in a Port wine cellar, explaining the winemaking and storage process, as well as the origin and characteristics of the wine. The most famous Port wine cellars are located in the heart of the historic area of Vila Nova de Gaia, across the river from the old city centre of Porto, and house extensive reserves of wood aged Port as well as Vintage Port cellars. The cellars are long cool, dark warehouses, their thick granite walls and high ceilings helping to keep out the heat and maintain an even temperature throughout the year. This ensures that the wines age slowly, gradually acquiring the sublime complex flavors and aromas of maturity.
Besides history and culture, Porto is also leisure, fun and night life. The famous streets around the Galeria de Paris Street, the cafés and its terraces, the Miguel Bombarda area or the commercial Sta Catarina Street are reference points in arts, in culture, but also in leisure and shopping.
It was in the Porto and in the North regions that Portugal was founded in the 12th century. It has been continuously inhabited since at least the 4th Century, when the Romans referred to it as Portus Calle.
It's a perfect gateway to the verdant Minho region full of history and tradition as well as the Douro valley, one of the most scenic areas in Portugal or even the world.
River Douro, and the classified area of the Alto Douro Wine Region, which for nearly 250 years produces the Port Wine, considered one of the world's best wines.
